While it's been known for a couple days now that Kyle Larson would be moving to the Sprint Cup Series, today it was made official as Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced that the 21-year-old Elk Grove, California native would be driving the #42 Earnhardt Ganassi Racing Chevrolet for the 2014 season and beyond.

Larson will replace Juan Pablo Montoya who has been with the team since the 2007 season. Montoya has had a very inconsistent tenure with the team and in early August it was announced that Montoya would not be back with the organization. Larson currently sits eighth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points 66 points out of the lead. Larson is excited to begin his career in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

"I don’t think I could be happier right now.  The last couple of years racing for Chip have been tremendous.  I have learned a ton and very much look forward to taking the next step into running in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  What will make it all even more exciting is that I will be driving for the coolest brand in the garage – Target.  I love the store, I love the brand and I couldn’t be more proud,” Larson said

Chris Heroy will remain the crew chief of the operation. It is also speculated that Larson will run the #51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet for a few races towards the end of the 2013 season. His Nationwide Series co-owner Harry Scott Jr just bought Phoenix Racing.
