Scott has promised Phoenix Racing car owner James Finch that his team will stay intact the rest of the season and General Manager Steve Barkdoll will remain in the same position through the end of the year. Scott will also remain a partner in the Nationwide Series with Turner Scott Motorsports.
"This is a very proud day for me as I will have the opportunity to compete against the best teams in motorsports in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as the owner of Phoenix Racing," said Scott. "I am going to build a championship contender with hard work, the right people and the right partners. This team has a great foundation thanks to the efforts of James Finch. There is a lot to build upon and I am looking forward to getting started."
The team also announced that their first race will be at Chicagoland Speedway on September 15th. NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Justin Allgaier will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at the track and Allgaier's Nationwide Series sponsor BRANDT will sponsor the effort. BRANDT and Allgaier will also run at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway in October. The team will continue to use the #51.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity and grateful to Mr. Scott that he's asked me to drive for him in the No. 51. Chevrolet. I love competing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series but I must admit that making my debut in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be a special day for me," said Allgaier.
Bobby Labonte was scheduled to run for Phoenix Racing this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway but was injured in a cycling incident and now Mike Bliss will be behind the wheel. Ryan Truex will drive for the #51 team at both Richmond and Dover. That leaves six other races that a driver still needs to be announced for.
