Injuries have been a story of late in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and that has not changed as Martin Truex Jr broke his wrist in a late race accident in the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Truex has worked hard with NASCAR and has been cleared to race this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Truex was collected in a multi-car accident on lap 448 on Saturday night and it looked like Truex had winced inside the car. In an interview with ABC after the accident Truex said he was perfectly fine. He will wear a cast on the wrist for Atlanta and the 11 remaining races in the 2013 season.
Truex currently sits 14th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings and is currently in one of the two wild card spots for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. There are two races remaining until it is determined who the 12 drivers will be in the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Michael Waltrip Racing has not yet determined whether a stand-by driver is needed for Sunday's race.
