The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East returned to a road course for the first time since 2010 on Saturday and it was 18-year-old Dylan Kwasniewski that pulled out the victory at Virginia International Raceway. The win was his fourth of the season in the 10 races so far.
Kwasniewski started from the pole in the Biscuitville 125 and led the first 10 laps of the race before relinquishing the lead to Daniel Suarez. For the next 17 laps Suarez showed the way until a round of green flag pit stops. Ryan Gifford led lap 28 before Kwasniewski found himself back in front on lap 29.
He would go onto lead the rest of the way. Suarez blew an engine on lap 50 which brought the caution out for the third time in the race and forced a green-white-checkered finish and the extension of the race from 55 to 57 laps. Suarez finished in 18th.
Kwasniewski won by 0.847 seconds over Bryan Ortiz, who finished his career best in second. Brett Moffitt finished third, Ben Kennedy fourth, Gray Gaulding fifth, Cale Conley sixth, Peyton Sellers seventh, Scott Heckert eighth, Eddie McDonald ninth, and Alex Kennedy tenth.
Gifford had an engine issue on lap 34 and finished 21st. Road course ace Andrew Ranger also had an engine expire and finished 23rd of the 26 cars at VIR.
With five races remaining in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule Dylan Kwasniewski leads Brett Moffitt by 28 points. Ben Kennedy is 40 points back in third. Eddie McDonald is fourth, and Ryan Gifford fifth.
The next race up for the series is on Labor Day when they hit the track for the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140 on Monday, September 2 at Greenville Pickens Speedway.
