This weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix Red Bull Racing is expected to announce that they have signed Daniel Ricciardo to drive for the team in the 2014 Formula 1 season. He will take over the ride that Mark Webber is leaving and be a teammate to three-time defending champion and current points leader Sebastian Vettel.
Germany’s Sport Bild correspondents Bianca Garloff and Ralf Bach were told by Red Bull Racing owner Dr Helmut Marko, “Unfortunately, I cannot say any more than that we will make an announcement at Spa.”
Ricciardo, a 24-year-old driver from Perth, Australia, has made 41 career starts in F1. He raced 11 races in the 2011 season for the HRT F1 Team and had a best finish of 16th. He then moved to Scuderia Toro Rosso which also flies the Red Bull colors for the full 20 race schedule in 2012 and scored ten points. So far in 2013 with Toro Rosso he has scored 11 points in the first ten races.
Other rumors are swirling that Kimi Raikkonen who was linked to the open Red Bull seat may be headed to rival Ferrari. Raikkonen currently drives for Lotus.
