Brennan Poole beat Spencer Gallagher to win the Allen Crowe Memorial 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Poole came across the line in the third position, however, the two leaders had jumped the final green-white-checkered restart and Poole was credited with the victory. It's Poole's fifth career ARCA Racing Series victory and second of the 2013 season in his third start. It was his first win on a dirt track.
Kelly Kovski and A.J. Fike crossed the line first and second around the 1 mile dirt track after 104 laps but lost the race after ARCA Racing Series officials said that Kovski and Fike had been disqualified due to jumping the final restart ahead of race leader Brennan Poole. That allowed Poole to get the victory. Poole was told on his radio that the leaders were black flagged before the finish so Poole knew he had to hold off Gallagher for the victory.
Finishing in the third position on the dirt track was Tom Hessert with Frank Kimmel coming home fourth and Justin Boston finishing in the fifth position.
Poole was booed as he climbed out of his Venturini Motorsports Toyota in victory lane. Fike, from Galesburg, Illinois, is a hometown favorite and there was a lot of confusion at the end of the event that caused such a harsh reaction from the fans. According to a fan in the stands, it was very obvious that the original leader Kelly Kovski jumped the start. The controversy is with Fike, who many feel did not jump the start. However, ARCA officials disagreed, leaving Kovski in the 13th position and Fike finishing 14th.
Chris Windom finished sixth, seventh was Mason Mitchell, with Shane Cockrum finished in the eighth position. Taylor Ferns finished ninth and Josh Williams rounded out the top ten.
Kimmel still leads the points over Mason Mingus. Mingus finished in 16th. Third in the points is Tom Hessert with Justin Boston in fourth and Josh Williams rounds out the top five.
Race 16 of 21 on the season is the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor 200 at Madison International Speedway in Wisconsin on Sunday, August 25th.
