Veteran crew chief Dennis Conner has been hired as crew chief for Johnny Sauter and the #98 Thorsport Racing Toyota Tundra effective immediately. Sauter's old crew chief Joe Shear Jr left the team after Iowa in July. Shear was unhappy with the direction the team was going.
Conner brings a wealth of experience to the group. He has 24 wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and helped guide Jack Sprague to three championships in 1997, 1999 and 2001. He has worked 250 races in the Camping World Truck Series and his last win came in 2006 with driver Terry Cook. Conner's career in NASCAR started back in 1981 in the Sprint Cup Series with driver Tim Richmond.
Sauter currently sits tenth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings. Sauter won the first two races of the season and led the points until an infraction found in post race inspection at Kansas got his crew chief suspended. The team has recorded only two top ten's in the seven races since Kansas.
