Shear, a veteran crew chief with 143 career Camping World Truck Series races under his belt, left the No. 98 team of Sauter prior to the Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Speedway. Shear and Sauter combined to win the first two races of the season but then Shear was suspended following the Kansas race on April 20th for four races due to a fuel cell that was illegal. He returned to the Thorsport team for the race at Iowa but then decided to part ways.
Armstrong is glad to have Shear join him.
"He's got a ton of experience and will definitely bring a lot to the table for this team," Armstrong said. "Michigan has been a pretty good track for me in the past, so I'm looking forward to starting this new partnership there in two weeks."
The race at Michigan International Speedway will be the National Guard 200 on Saturday, August 17. Shear will replace Gere Kennon, who had served as crew chief for Armstrong in the first 11 races of the 2013 season.
The 22-year old Armstong is currently 12th in the driver standings with two top ten finishes.
