Sam Hornish Jr took the pole for the STP 300 for the NASCAR Nationwide Series STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway at a speed of 178.341mph. It's Hornish's second career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole. On the outside of the front row will be Elliott Sadler in Joe Gibbs' #11 Toyota.
Starting in the third position is Austin Dillon with teammate Matt Crafton starting fourth. Crafton is running his second race of the season in Richard Childress' #33 Chevrolet. Starting in the fifth position is Travis Pastrana and Brian Vickers will roll off from the sixth position. Joey Logano will start from the seventh position and Trevor Bayne will start from the eighth position. Brian Scott will roll off from the ninth position and Parker Kligerman will start from the tenth position.
Starting in the 11th position is Alex Bowman with Brad Sweet starting in the 12th spot. Points leader Regan Smith will start from the 13th position and Mike Bliss will roll off 14th. Starting in the 15th position is Joey Coulter who is running the #54 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing this weekend. Starting 16th is Justin Allgaier and Dakoda Armstrong starts 17th running the #21 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. Starting 18th is Michael Annett with veteran Joe Nemechek starting in the 19th position. Eric McClure rounds out the top 20.
Other notables in the field include: Kyle Larson in the 22nd position, Johanna Long in the 23rd position and Landon Cassill in 33rd position.
There were 41 cars for 40 spots which means one car went home and that was Tim Schendel driving the #46 Chevrolet for The Motorsports Group.
