It's been since the 1992 Hooters 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway since Bobby Labonte has missed a Sprint Cup Series race. This weekend's race for Labonte was in doubt after Labonte was replaced in the #47 JTG/Daugherty Racing Toyota by A.J. Allmendinger at Michigan International Speedway.
Well today Phoenix Racing announced that the 2000 Series champion will continue his consecutive start streak at Michigan International Speedway when Labonte takes the wheel of the #51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet this weekend in the Quicken Loans 400.
"Bobby came and helped us out a few years ago when we were trying to get our Sprint Cup program up and running," Phoenix crew chief Nick Harrison said. "Now (team owner) James (Finch) wants to return the favor. We know Bobby will do a great job for us this weekend."
Labonte is currently 27th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver points. He takes over the Phoenix Racing Chevrolet which sits 24th in owner points. No word on whether Labonte will run anymore races with Phoenix Racing.
Phoenix Racing also announced that Jacques Villeneuve will run for the team at Sonona Raceway in two weeks.Tags: A.J. Allmendinger, Bobby Labonte, Motorsports, NASCAR, phoenix racing
