Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey has suffered his third concussion in just four seasons. The 26-year-old was diagnosed with concussions during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He has now been placed on MLB’s concussion protocol and will require further testing before he will be eligible to return.

The way Pompey sustained this injury is far from normal but also shows how unlucky some players can be when it comes to being injury prone. Pompey smacked his head off of some bats that were placed at the top of his locker in the clubhouse.
An injury like this would make people want to roll their eyes back in frustration. This situation will also likely be remembered as one the weirdest injuries ever to happen in the MLB.
Big Blow to Pompey’s Return to MLB
Pompey has been fighting ever since the 2015 season to get back to playing regularly at the major-league level. Unfortunately, multiple concussions have been a major reason as to why that hasn’t happened yet. This season was supposed to be the one for Pompey. He’s out of minor-league options and was seen to be on the bubble for one of the outfield positions coming out of spring training.
This injury likely means the end of spring training for Pompey. It also creates more uncertainty around the thought of Pompey becoming a regular-player at the major-league level. In 14 games this spring, the Canadian recorded three doubles, one home run, seven RBI, two stolen bases and a slash line of .282/.282/.436.
Those numbers show that he’s rightfully earned consideration to be one of the outfielders on the Blue Jays 25-man roster coming out of spring training. However, when he recovers from this latest concussion, the Blue Jays will have to make a decision with him. They will have to either create an open roster spot for him or place him on waivers before he can be sent down to the minor leagues.
