A battle of top ranked light heavyweights in Ryan Bader vs. Ovince St. Preux has been set as the main event for the UFC event headed to Bangor, Maine. Both fighters were victorious last Saturday night at UC 174, breaking them both into the top 15 of the division. Based on their wins at UFC 174, Ryan Bader has jumped to #8 in the division and OSP has cracked the top 10. Both of these men have been on a streak the past few years, only losing to the best in the division.
Bader is, at this point, a UFC veteran having fought the best in the division. He, at this point, is in danger of potentially becoming a journeyman in the UFC, a gatekeeper used as a stepping stone for higher talent. Bader has competed with the division’s elite, but he has almost always fallen short when presented with a pivotal fight.
Ovince St. Preux, also known as OSP, is exactly the kind of talent Bader is used to fighting. OSP is a young, surging star and has been matched with Bader in order to jump off the back of the veteran and steal his momentum. A win over a veteran like Bader would mean OSP could be only a few fights away from a title shot. For Bader, a win over OSP would be nearly first time in his career that he has taken advantage of his position in the light heavyweight rankings and find himself firmly in the title picture. If Bader wins, he might be one high profile name from fighting for a title.
