The UFC returning to Ireland has been rumored for quite some time. It has been years since the organization has made an appearance in Ireland, thought, the interest has never faded. It seems as though the UFC wanted a superstar to bring into Ireland before they made their return.

Enter Conor McGregor

The dynamic UFC featherweight has both an exciting fight style and a brash personality to match it. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, he is one of the only Irish fighters on the roster. McGregor is now 2-0 in the UFC with one knockout and one decision. He is also a former two weight class champion in the leading European MMA promotion, Cage Rage. McGregor not only publicly called out the entire top ten of the featherweight division, but he also called out a few lightweights and welterweights. In short, Conor McGregor is a hype machine, and he is also the man the UFC has been waiting for.

Typically quiet and reserved, Cole Miller, a veteran UFC featherweight, seemed to take the most offense to McGregor’s comments. Since McGregor has been vocal in the UFC, Miller has been there just as loud. The only difference between Miller and McGregor is that McGregor talks about everyone, Miller only has eyes for the Irishman.

The grudge match was set up to headline a UFC Fight Night in Ireland, and, after McGregor had been sidelined for months with an ACL injury, his return, to Dublin nonetheless, has been greatly talked about.

Unfortunately for both fighters and the fans, Miller has pulled out of the fight with an injury. It seems as though the two men won’t be able to trade anything more than words at the moment. Stepping in for Miller is #15 ranked featherweight, Diego Brandao

Brandao is an Ultimate Fighter winner, and a ferocious fighter himself. Similar to a 145 pound Wanderlei Silva, Brandao is a dangerous, vicious fighter who is not an easy task for anybody. Miller being injured actually worked out better for McGregor, who gets a higher ranked opponent, which is exactly what he has been asking for.
