To make room for him on the roster, the Brewers designated c atcher-first baseman Blake Lalli for assignment.
Ravin, 25, was a fifth-round draft choice of the Reds out of Chatsworth, Calif., High School in 2006 and he has impressed scouts with his big arm, with a fastball in the mid-90s. The problem for Ravin has been command.
This year, working as a reliever for Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Louisville, Ravin walked 38 hitters in 51 innings. He was 1-3 with a 5.58 ERA in 38 games and 40.1 innings at Pensacola, posting a 1.760 WHIP, and in 10 appearances and 10.2 innings at Louisville, Ravin had a 6.75 ERA and 2.156 WHIP.
In 517.2 career innings over eight seasons in the minors, Ravin has struck out 467 batters, but walked 349.
Ravin took to Twitter to announce the move:
Ravin was designated for assignment by the Reds on Monday, per CBSSports.com., along with right-hander Kyle Lotzkar, when Cincinnati activated starter Johnny Cueto and reliever Sean Marshall from the 60-day disabled list.
Lalli, 30, appeared in 16 games for the Brewers early in the season, going 3-for-24 with two RBI. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Nashville, where he hit .282/.334/.447 in 311 plate appearances, hitting 11 homers and driving in 35 runs. Milwaukee has signed Lalli as a minor league free agent last November.
