Shilique Calhoun, a defensive end for the Michigan State Football Team was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. His performance on Saturday’s game against University of South Florida was beyond exceptional as he recovered a fumble for a touchdown, then intercepted a pass and ran it in for a score as well.
In addition to the national nod, Calhoun was named Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week but was also named the College Football Performance Awards National Defensive Performer of the Week.
Calhoun, even as a defensive player, in fact leads the Spartan in scoring with 18 points. In the season opening game against Western Michigan, the sophomore recovered a fumble and ran it 16 yards for a touchdown. He is personally responsible for two of the three touchdowns on Saturday’s game, but 18 of the 41 points scored by the entire team so far this year.
In addition to his turnover and scoring stats, so far this year Calhoun has been solid on the line. He has recorded three solo tackles, two for a loss and one sack.
You can catch Calhoun’s next amazing play when the Spartans host Youngstown State this coming Saturday.
