"Matt made a decision today," his father Jim Morrissey said. "He committed to Michigan State this afternoon."

The elder Morrissey is also an alumnus of Michigan State, where he played linebacker on the football team. Matt’s sister, Anna, is also a Spartan and currently plays for the women’s basketball team.

Morrissey is now the 13th overall commit for Michigan State for the 2014 recruiting class. Originally from Lincolnshire, Illinois, Morrissey is joined by other Illinois' natives in committing to MSU; Brian Allen, Enoch Smith Jr. and Chase Gianacakos.

In his junior year of high school, Matt posted impressive numbers with 87 tackles and five pass break-ups. He is considered No 23 overall football recruit in the state of Illinois according to 247 Sports.
