Four Michigan State Spartan Golfers Qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

The premier amateur tournament in the country will be set to host over 150 female golfers from around the globe. Four Michigan State Spartans will be among them. Seniors Allyssa Ferrell, Christine Meier, Liz Nagel, and incoming freshman Kelly Grassel will compete in the championship which is set to take place August 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.

After each shot a solid round of 73 at the Biltmore Country Club in North Barrington, Illinois, Ferrell and Grassel earned qualifications for the championship. Ferrell also qualified for the tournament in 2009 and 2011. She currently is posting a career average score of 76.53 at Michigan State.

Grassel, who will start her freshman term this fall, won the Indiana State High School Championship as a junior and senior in high school. She currently posts the top score at the event with a seven under par 137 (69-68).

At the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Nagel and Meier each qualified with solid scores. Nagel shot 71 while Meier posted a 72.
