The Michigan State women’s golf team is heading to Athens, Georgia this week to compete in the NCAA Championships Tournament, which they qualified for earlier this month when they placed eighth in the NCAA Regionals. The tournament will take place at the University of Georgia Golf Course which is a par 72 6,372 yard course.
This is the second consecutive year that the Spartans have participated in the NCAA Championships. Also it is the 11th time in school history and ninth under current women’s golf coach, Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll.
The lineup this year will consist of senior Caroline Powers, juniors Christine Meier, Liz Nagel, and Allyssa Ferrell, and sophomore Trisha Witherby. Each of these players, with the exception of Witherby, has played in the NCAA Championships, thus bringing well needed experience to the event.
The 25th ranked Spartans have performed well, especially late in the season. In the NCAA Regionals the team made a last day comeback to take eighth place and qualify for the Championships. In the last regular season event, the Lady Spartans won the Lady Buckeye Invitational by seven strokes over conference foe Purdue.
Michigan State also placed third at the Central District Invitational and the Mason Rudolph Championship, and placed second at the Mary Fossum Invitational in September.
The first tee time for Michigan State will be on Tuesday at 8:36 am on hole number 10. On Wednesday the tee time is scheduled for 12:59 pm. Both are Eastern Time. Live coverage of the event can be covered at NCAA.com while video coverage will be made available for the third and fourth rounds later this week.Tags: Allyssa Ferrell, Caroline Powers, Christine Meier, Liz Nagel, Michigan State, Michigan State Spartans, MSU, NCAA, Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll, Trisha Witherby
