The Michigan State Spartans lost a heartbreaker on Sunday against The Ohio State Buckeyes 72-70. This was tough loss to take, though: the Spartans watched their hopes at having sole-ownership of the Big Ten regular season Championship go down the net with the game winning basket from the Buckeyes. MSU now has to split the championship three-ways, between OSU and the University of Michigan.
This will most certainly put the boys in a "funk". If I lost to the Buckeyes AND had to split the title not only with them but with "that other school in Michigan", I wouldn't be too happy. Don't count the Spartans out though!
They still have the Big Ten Tournament coming up to prove their worth. If they can't win the regular season championship, you know Tom Izzo is going to have his players fight for the Tournament Championship! What better to get back at the Buckeyes and the Wolverines?
The Spartans also have the NCAA Basketball Championship to look forward to. Izzo and the Spartans are well known in bracketing world. The expectations are often high and they usually don't disappoint. Tom Izzo will show the nation once again that the Spartans are nothing to ignore.
That is, assuming, that the boys in Green and White want it bad enough. Draymond Green will certainly want to win a championship before he is no longer in a Spartan uniform. He is a positive player and he will need to step up to the leadership role, as he has done numerous times this season, and rally his teammates around him.
This could be the Spartans year to go at least to the Final Four as long as they don't lose sight of the prize at the end. Don't lose faith in MSU just yet, Spartan fans.
