Exactly one year ago Miami Marlins Openning Day First Baseman Gaby Sanchez was on his way to an All-Star game birth and was hitting .345 in the month of May. However, if we fast forward to present day the 2011 All-Star first baseman finds himself in unfamiliar territory and in a new state. On Sunday Marlins brass announced that it had optioned Gaby Sanchez to Triple-A New Orleans and called up outfielder Chris Coghlan.

Sanchez, has found himself in terrible slump early this season and is hitting .197 on the year. Truth be told this slump dates back to last season. After his All-Star game selection Sanchez only hit .225 for the remainder of the season. Marlins General Manager Mike Hill stated this is purely a move to take some pressure off of Gaby whom the team feels is pressing during this cold streak.

"We think he's better than he's showing here. We think he is pressing. We want to take some pressure off of him, get him down to Triple-A, and get him right."

With the demotion of Sanchez, the most likely candidate to fill the absence at first is Outfielder Logan Morrison. Morrison played first in the minors as he was coming up and with a sore knee is the most likely candidate to fill the void.
