According to a report by USA Today, free agent Center Greg Oden was arrested early this morning for being accused of punching his ex-girlfriend in the face. The incident took place in Lawrence, Ind. When police officers arrived to the scene, they saw the victim holding her face while on the bed crying. There was obvious cuts on her forehead and swelling to the nose. The victims best friend was at the scene as well and said that Oden punched his ex-girlfriend and asked for the ex to tell the police what had happened. The victim eventually did and the police arrested Oden, who apologized for the incident and went without a struggle.
If this is true, with this unthinkable act being on Oden's resume, it will be extremely hard for the free agent to find a home anywhere for the for-seeable future in the NBA. Oden was not productive last season playing with the Miami Heat and he was a non factor in the playoffs due to back issues. No one is exactly clamoring for his services and even the Miami Heat don't know what they are going to do about re-signing Oden. The former number one draft pick future is looking bleak right now with health issues continually being a problem and most importantly this issue with assault to his ex-girlfriend. Only time will tell what Oden's future holds with injuries being a problem and doing the unthinkable by putting his hands on a female, this becomes a recipe for a career that is not looking too good right now.
