NCAA Champion Connecticut Huskies stand-out point guard Shabazz Napier was drafted with the 24th overall pick in this years NBA Draft to the Charlotte Hornets. However, he was later traded to the Miami Heat for P.J. Hariston, who the was drafted by the Heat as their first round selection. Napier played is someone who has a lot of heart and courage as a player and will be most definitely be ready to contribute to the Heat when the season rolls around.
Napier played all four years of college with the Huskies, winning two National Championships, including this past season to end his collegiate career on a high note. LeBron James even even raved about the point guard on Twitter, calling him his favorite player. This no doubt, in many people's eyes, led to the Heat acquiring Napier and giving James the opportunity to play alongside the Huskie stand-out if James chooses to re-sign with the Heat. Napier brings an intensity that was sometimes lacking at the point guard position for the Heat, especially in the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs this past Finals.
Napier might not be an every year all-star like Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and those type of caliber players, but he is exactly what the Heat need and he fits their style of play. If James along with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh do indeed decide to re-sign, then the team would not need a huge all-star point guard to do what the point guards mentioned do, they will need someone to play their part on the team and make a play when need be. This fits Napier completely as he will no doubt be able to fulfill that need. His fearless play and refusal to lose style is what makes him a unique talent and something that the Heat desperately needs.
He might not put up Hall of Fame numbers, but he is a winner and that counts for something. You can put those numbers, but you will feel an emptiness that an NBA Championship can fulfill. Something that Napier will do in his career a few times.
