Back in 2010, LeBron James, Chris Bosh & Dwyane Wade decided to come together for one common goal: to win NBA Championships. James' infamous, “Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six not seven,” speech electrified the crowd at the American Airlines Arena when the three superstars assembled before the eyes of thousands that witnessed their introduction.
They went through their highs and lows. Losing to the Dallas Mavericks in six games of the NBA Finals back in the 2010-2011 season. Then they went on to win back-to-back titles beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the 2011-2012 season & the San Antonio Spurs in an epic seven game series in the 2012-2013 season. Now this team, more specifically has reached a new low. Being over-matched, and destroyed in five games in a rematch against the San Antonio Spurs, which did not seem competitive at all. Now with Wade, James & Bosh having the ability to pick-up their options for the next season or deciding to become free agents, it leaves the most uncertainty in the “Big Three,” era.
During the season, James was asked what he will do during the off-season. Would he leave or will he go. He often said that he wasn't thinking about that & that he couldn't see himself leaving Miami. While being interviewed at the post-game press conference following the Heat being eliminated from the playoffs, James has now somewhat backed off that stance. Saying that his family and his team will do what's best, & that he doesn't know what he is going to do. Bosh, who said that James will be coming back and that he was coming back, said after the game that he doesn't know what he is going to eat for breakfast the next day, also seeming to back off just a little bit. As for Wade, he has been mum the whole time on the whole situation, with many feeling Wade will be back. However, if you're expecting the three superstars to take a pay-cut just to say money for the team and Heat owner Micky Arison, then you have another thing coming.
According to a report the New York Daily News, the Heat's “Big Three,” are not interested in taking a pay-cut just to save the owner money on the luxury tax. They will do it, if it means bringing in help for the three stars. Basically the three stars are willing to redo their deals, but only they can get the help that they need. They looked overwhelmed by what the Spurs did to them in the Finals and they realize that.
It will be a very interesting Summer, as the last day to opt-in into your contract is June 29th. It's only a couple of weeks away, but it will feel like an eternity. Just as the Miami Heat team came together unexpectedly, it can come to crashing halt unexpectedly as well. Time will tell what Bosh, Wade & James will decide to do.
