The Miami Heat are coming off of a hard fought season where they got the reward of hoisting the NBA Championship for a second straight season. With many of the offseason moves already made, teams are prepped to dethrone the champs especially in the Eastern Conference. Player movement in the East was much of the talk in free agency. Which team can build a team good enough to match up against them? The Heat are a team out to continue its dominance in the league despite making minimal moves in the offseason. We will break down the top five teams that have a chance to contend for the top spot in the East along with the defending world champions.

After the season came to a close, a lot of the talk was whether Miami could do something that hasn't been done since the Los Angeles Lakers did it from 2000-2002. Coming out a tough conference is tough enough to do but winning the NBA championship three times in a row is something that hasn't been done in over a decade. That was when Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant were the dynamic duo for the Lakers, now the Heat's Big Three of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade just one magical season away from hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy three consecutive times. Miami was up to the multiple challenges faced in their last run and are sure to encounter more as they embark on season number five of the Big 3 era.

Miami started its offseason trading for a pick in this year's, obtaining the rights to Long Beach State's James Ennis. The Heat in return gave the Atlanta Hawks a future second draft pick. They also helped their cause by resigning Ray Allen and Chris Andersen and adding another big man to the frontcourt, scooping up Greg Oden. Those additions led to the team letting go of Mike Miller despite his ability to stretch the court in games. The Heat will face stiffer competition heading into the 2013-14 season and below are the teams that will compete to stop their domination.

Starting tomorrow, will begin a five-part series that will reveal the top five teams that have a chance to contend for the Eastern Conference title.
