There was a huge sigh of relief when the Miami Dolphins (6-6) defeated the New York Jets quite nicely on the trip up north to the Meadowlands. Even more satisfaction was felt when their defense forced the Jets coaching staff to bench Jets’ quarterback Geno Smith late in the second half. Dolphins that weren’t statistically supposed to have a good game had an exceptional one. A Jets’ defense that should’ve been a factor, fell flat. Also, is it possible that quarterback Ryan Tannehill finally has some playmakers in Miami?
This week in Fantasy football Dolphins’ players have all of the potential to do great things and make owners proud they started them. However, with one player possibly returning from a season ending injury the shared responsibilities could impact an individual’s final points for the game. For week 14 here are some pointers on whose game ready and who’s not against the (5-7) Pittsburg Steelers
Last week, running back Lama Miller face a run defense ranked 3rd and still managed to rush for 72-yards (longest run of 17-yards). This week when the Dolphins travel to Pittsburg Miller will be running against 18th ranked Steelers’ defense.
Another factor in whether you start Miller is the play of Daniel Thomas who’s also an option on select teams. An ankle injury had him rumored to miss the rest of the reason. But, this week he returned to practice on a limited basis. With that being said Miller should get more touches today. Thomas is listed as questionable for this afternoon’s game. Give Miller the start for a 2nd or 3rd option at running back. The Steelers have been a little stingy to backs in recent weeks; allowing only 69.8 yards a game (3.7 yard average).
Dolphins’ wide receiver, Brian Hartline was honestly the biggest surprise last week. He finally had the game that many thought would’ve been the norm for the 2013 season. Hartline finished the game 9-15, 127 yards (14.1 average) and one touchdown. His longest catch of the day was for 31-yards. Furthermore it had been eight game since Hartline had a touchdown. About time! He did this well against the 5th ranked Jets’ pass defense. Pretty sweet!
This week Hartline faces 11th ranked pass defense in the Steelers. So the expectation is there that Hartline should kill it this week. However, his inconsistencies in 2013 say otherwise. A lot is on the line with the remaining games this season and now more than ever Hartline needs to play to this high caliber. The pressure is one. He should have a decent game, but only give him the start for a 3rd option.
Wide receiver Mike Wallace has truly hit his stride. For the past few weeks he’s gained back his fans and owners who have been benching him. He’s sure to continue getting the start if he keeps playing this well. Against the Jets he was near perfect as he was 7-9, 82 yards and a touchdown. Start him that’s for sure.
For the majority of this season, quarterback Ryan Tannehill hasn’t been featured in this Fantasy preview. He needs to be considered now. As long as his receivers are playing well, give him the start in most leagues. Last week he finished the day with pretty amazing numbers. He was 28-43, 331 yards and 2 touchdowns. As previously mentioned the Dolphins have a wild card spot on the line. They’re clearly playing like the want it. Unless you have a top five quarterback in your league, there’s no harm in playing Tannehill.
The Brotherhood Dolphins’ defense continues to impress. Defensive player, Olivier Vernon was named defensive player of week 13. He had three of the four sacks and 8 solo tackles. The remaining defense didn’t disappoint either. Kao Misi recorded the 4th sack and Danelle Ellerbe and Brent Grimes had once interception each.
This defense is continuing to play well and make key plays when needed. Continue to start them despite the fact they will face an 8th rank pass offense. The Steelers run defense isn’t that good. They’re ranked last for heaven sakes!
Stay tuned next week for Week 15’s Fantasy Football preview!
