The Miami Dolphins signed defensive tackle Marvin Austin today. Formerly of the New York Giants, Austin will take the place of defensive tackle Vaughn Martin, whose been placed on the reserve/injury list. He joined the league after being departing a team currently winless to join a 3-0 Dolphins' unit, should fair him well.
According to Austin's Twitter account, he still list himself as a Giant. Considering his last update was made in April 1st, this doesn't say too much in regards to his social network engagement. Austin's most recent NFL headline was his blow to Mark Sanchez during the 4th quarter of their preseason game. That hit sent the Jets' quarterback to the bench and out of contention for the starting quarterback job.
Released by the Giants in August, CBS Sports reported that Austin was one of the free agent players who worked out for the Dolphins at the end of last week. Previously, Austin missed all of his first season after being placed on the reserved/injury list and in 2012 he played in only eight games, reporting just five tackles.
Through the first three games of the Dolphins 2013 season, a number of defensive players have been plagued by injuries. Koa Misi (shoulder), Dimitri Patterson (groin), Cameron Wake (knee) and Paul Soliai (knee) are questionable for Monday’s game.
Going into Monday's away game against the New Orleans Saints, the Dolphins will need all of their defensive strength going against Drew Brees and company. The Saints passing offense is currently ranked 4th and 3rd on ESPNs Week 4 Power Rankings (up five spots from last week).
