On Wednesday, Ryan Tannehill was limited in practice due to a right shoulder injury. During Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts he appeared shaking up after making a fumble. At the moment there’s no sign that he won’t play Sunday, when the Atlanta Falcons (1-1) visit the Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium.
Last Sunday Tannehill was sacked five times by the Colts’ defense. As a result his offense has taking a bit of scrutiny from the press for their poor protection. In the off season, reports out of training camp stated that left tackle Jonathan Martin was the man cause for the offensive line's struggles.
Tannehill refuses to let the nine sacks this season fall on the offensive line. Overall he feels comfortable due to his time and experience in the league. However, there have been moments where he believes he could’ve made adjustments to his play to escape the pressure.
“It’s not like I am getting pressure from everywhere and every time I drop back that I am getting pressure, it’s on me just to step up underneath the pressure and step into the pocket. If it’s on me then, half those sacks are probably on me, so you can’t look at it as just as a number and say ‘Oh you have given up nine sacks, the offensive line has given up nine sacks’ it’s a team game and if I don’t step up then it’s my fault.”
There’s no indication that Tannehill won’t be on the field Sunday in the Dolphins’ first home game of the 2013 season. Currently the Dolphins stand at 2-0 with both wins coming on the road.
“We’re excited, I think that we had a lot of fun going on the road, it's tough playing on the road and winning in the NFL. To be able to come out 2-0 after two road trips is very exciting for us, but to be able to come home and play in front of a home crowd with a lot of buzz in the air and hopefully in front of a lot of home fans, it’s a lot of fun,” Tannehill exclaimed.
