His Dolphin career was cut short due to off the field problems with his then wife and now Chad Johnson has been ordered to jail due to a probation violation. Johnson appeared in Broward County court on Monday and a judge put him in jail for the violation. The 35-year-old receiver was put into sheriff's custody with a $1,000 bond during the hearing while prosecutors have been asking for him to serve 60 days in jail.
A final hearing is set up for June 3. Last week, when Johnson failed to report to his probation officer, a warrant was issued for his arrest. During the Monday hearing, Johnson's attorney tried to explain his non-reporting as miscommunication problems. Johnson called the whole thing a misunderstanding as well.
From the NBC Miami TV website, Johnson said, "I didn't do anything on purpose. I wouldn't blatantly not show up."
But the judge, Kathleen McHugh, was looking at all the evidence, not just the alleged miscommunication as Johnson has not finished his court ordered counseling.
"At this point, from what I'm hearing so far, I don't think you're taking probation seriously, I don't," said McHugh.
Last September, Johnson pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge involving his former wife, Evelyn Lozada. He received one year of probation.
