Manchester United had been linked with Porto and Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho earlier this week and have now been reported to have made a formal offer for the player. The Times have reported that the offer is around £20 million.
United had contacted the Portuguese club about their star midfielder earlier in the week to find out how much Porto would value Moutinho. Porto are reported to be ready to sell the Portugal midfielder but value him at around £26 million. United are hoping that their initial offer will be enough to satisfy the Portuguese giants so that they can begin negotiations with the player before other clubs show interest.
United are believed to be facing some competition for Moutinho's signature from Tottenham Hotspur due to the fact that their new manager Andre Villas-Boas has previously worked closely with the player and has cited him as a top signing for his club. Luka Modric looks certain to leave Tottenham this summer and Villas-Boas sees Moutinho as the perfect replacement for the Croatian.
No official word on an offer has been announced from Manchester United.
