The Los Angeles Lakers will begin their 2013 preseason playing against the Golden State Warriors tonight at 7:00 PM PDT.
While the preseason isn't nearly as exciting and competitive as the regular season, it will still give the Lakers and their fan base a taste of what will come this season.
With the new additions of young and athletic players like Nick Young, Wesley Johnson and former Laker Jordan Farmar, there will be a lot more of Mike D'Antoni's fast paced offense than previous years. The signing of 10-year NBA veteran Chris Kaman is also another player who's motivated to play well and give the Lakers an inside presence. It will be interesting to see how these new players will fit during the preseason.
Furthermore, there will certainly be many players competing for a final roster spot during the preseason. Guys like Shawne Williams, Xavier Henry, Marcus Landry, Ryan Kelly and Elias Harris are all hoping to make the regular season roster, and these exhibition games will determine their fate on making the Lakers squad.
However, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant will not be participating in the Lakers preseason games, as he his recovering from his Achilles injury in April. He is reportedly making progress with his rehab in Germany, and is expected to return to action sometime early in the regular season.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol will not be playing in the exhibition opener. Although they are healthy and are capable of playing, coach D'Antoni wants to give them a rest tonight so they can stay fresh in time for the regular season.
The Lakers starting lineup against the Warriors will presumably consist of:
Tonight's preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors should be a fun one, and we will get the chance to see how the Lakers can do without three future Hall of Famers in Kobe, Nash and Gasol.
