The Los Angeles Lakers officially sign free agent forward Shawne Williams. Back in July, there were rumors that the Lakers invited Williams to training camp, but now General Manager Mitch Kupchak formally confirmed the announcement. Contract details have not been released.
The six-year NBA veteran had his best season with the New York Knicks under coach Mike D'Antoni. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. He also shot a career best 40 percent from three, which is ideal in D'Antoni's offense.
At 6-foot-9, Williams possess the appropriate size to play both the small forward and the power forward position. Although the former Memphis Tiger won't play major minutes for the Lakers, he can still provide valuable minutes off the bench.
