The Los Angeles Kings filled almost 98-percent of the STAPLES Center’s capacity playing on December 3, 2011 against the Florida Panthers, winning 2-1, and since they have sold out 76 consecutive regular season and playoff games, setting a franchise record.
The Kings have built on exceptionally loyal fans that have followed the team and supported them since the team had its first National Hockey League game on October 14, 1967 at the Long Beach Arena.
The previous record was set during the ever so popular Wayne Gretzky Era, of 75 consecutive sellout regular season and playoff games, between December 8, 1990 and October 8, 1992. Before the arrival of Gretzky the average attendance of 12,620 during the 1974-75 season was the highest average nightly rate.
Despite a variety of sports starting in October and November, at the start of the Kings season, the Kings also have a short amount of time to sell those tickets out versus trying to sell one out for a game in March. But they managed to keep the constant nightly attendance of 18,118. It’s expected that the Kings will continue their sellout streak through the 2013-14 season.
The Kings being the 2012 Stanley Cup Champions doesn’t hurt their sell-outs either.
