The Los Angeles Kings fell short 4-3 against the Nashville Predators on Saturday at STAPLES Center, despite outshooting them 38-17.
The Kings had a total of six power play opportunities and the Predators had five, two of which got them their first two goals of the night during the first period. At 19:23 in the first period Anze Kopitar with a wrist shot put the Kings on the board, assisted by Jake Muzzin.
At the start of the second period, Kings center Jarret Stoll played two shifts, left the ice and did not return, and the Predators got their third goal of the night.
At the start of the third period it was announced that Stoll’s injury was being evaluated, and no specifics were released on the injury. With Kings top goal scorer Jeff Carter on injured reserve, and Stoll out, the Kings still managed to make a comeback from the 3-1 deficit. At 9:41 in the second period Dustin Brown shot from a sharp angle, and the puck deflected into the net, with the assists going to Kopitar and Justin Williams.
At 11:18 Mike Richards got a power play goal, as he picked the puck by the goaltenders feet, because of a shot by Tyler Toffoli, with the assists going to Toffoli and Muzzin. But at 16:41 the Predators got their fourth goal of the night and took home the two points.
Toffoli made his Kings season debut taking Carter's place on the second line with Richards and Daniel Carcillo. He got more than 19 minutes of ice time and finished with five shots on goal and an assist.
Toffoli and Linden Vey, who had been called up from the Manchester Monarchs due to Jeff Carter’s injury, arrived in Los Angeles after an all-day travel Friday because of the Los Angeles International Airport shooting incident. Kings coach Darryl Sutter said they got into the John Wayne Airport in Orange County around 10:30 last night and didn’t make it here until midnight, but regardless Toffoli played a strong game.
