During the first period the Rangers Brad Richardson got the first goal at 13:22, after a scramble created by a turnover from Kings defenseman Drew Doughty.
During the second period Richardson got his second goal of the night at 10:46. The Kings struggled with keeping possession of the puck, causing midway turnovers. Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin and Slava Voynov both got out of position chasing the puck, leading Richards to score easily on a break-away with Rick Nash.
At 12:11, Kings Mike Richards forced a turnover, getting the puck to young defenseman Jake Muzzin who got a slap shot goal.
During the third period Brian Boyle of the Rangers won the faceoff to the left of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan McDonagh cleared the puck to the far boards, where Kings star goaltender and former Conn Smyth Trophy winner, Jonathan Quick skated to his left to play it, as his stick slipped out of his hand causing him to kneel and reach for the puck, but he misplayed it, and the puck hit his right pad and ricocheted into his own net. Quick stopped a total of 25 shots on Monday night.
The Kings are scheduled to play at home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against the Ottawa Senators.
