Los Angeles Kings resumed their training camp practice, now as only one group.
Kings captain Dustin Brown returned Monday morning as he sat in his dressing room taking the tags off his new gear, a little later than usual.
Brown left the ice early on the first day of training camp, September 12, because of an injured hamstring.
“It was a one-on-one battle drill, and I was just reaching for a puck and it just happened, I guess,” he said. “I was in an awkward position leaning over, but I don’t think there’s any one thing that could have been different. It’s just one of those fluke injuries.” Brown told Jon Rosen of lakingsinsider.com.
On Monday, he went through a brief session by himself under the direction of assistant coach Davis Payne, since it was his first time hitting the ice since the injury.
Brown said that their being cautious but he thinks he will be good to go. Brown has a shorter time to prepare for the season opener than others, and he will attempt to be ready for the 82-game season ahead.
Head Coach Darryl Sutter spoke about Brown to Jon Rosen of lakingsinsider.com as well saying, “Today is the first day he’s skated. I really don’t know. He’s a player that’s clearly behind the eight ball,” Sutter said. “He hasn’t skated. He skated one day since the start of camp, and he’s not a guy that can just jump into a game. So if he doesn’t get any exhibition games, I’d say it’s highly unlikely that you’ve got a player that’s ready for the season.”
The Kings open the regular season October 3 in Minnesota, against the Wild.
