On Thursday, day one of training camp, he had to leave the ice, cutting his session short. The reason is a hamstring issue, not his knee flaring up. During the playoff run last season Brown suffered a torn knee ligament, that didn’t require surgery.
Coach Darryl Sutter told Lisa Dillman of the LA Times that they are just going to be careful with Brown and just make sure he’s ready for the end of camp.
Coach Sutter also talked about the extent of injuries that defenseman Robyn Regehr suffered last season. Regehr received a cut on his elbow that gradually became infected during the team’s playoff run, especially the last two games with the Chicago Blackhawks. He had to spend a night in the hospital.
During the off-season Regehr underwent surgery to remove a bursa in his elbow that provided quite a bit of discomfort during the playoffs. After the surgery he was on intravenous fluids that kept him in Los Angeles for two weeks, under the care of a nurse.
Other injuries included Regehr getting a broken nose during the St. Louis Blues series.
Sutter told LA Kings Insider he is ready to see a fully healthy Regehr rejoin the team’s defensive corps. He added that Regehr did a lot for the team last year, and now he’s a guy that’s used to being well-trained, ready, and he’s well-trained, and he’ll be ready.
Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell, who missed all of last season due to his knee injury, did not have inflammation after a tough session Thursday, passing a significant test. Mitchell said he is very optimistic but cautious.
