Following the Los Angeles Dodgers dropping a pitcher’s duel last night in St. Louis, Brandon McCarthy takes the hill in a quick turnaround for a Thursday day “getaway” game to try and win the four-game series. He opposes Adam Wainwright, the dean of current Cardinal pitchers.

McCarthy, who has battled some patella tendonitis in his right knee, has held opponents to two runs or less in six of his eight 2017 starts. Over his last two starts, the gangly right-hander has allowed only one run and five hits over 12 innings while striking out 11 batters.

Jhonny Peralta and Jedd Gyorko have combined to face McCarthy 41 times, combining for one single while being fanned 12 times.

After a rocky start to the year where he sported a 6.37 ERA after seven starts, the 35-year old Wainwright has a three-start run where he has allowed only one run in 20 13 innings.
