Nothing more than business as usual for the Indianapolis Colts in its trip to face the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Indianapolis defense was stellar in the competitive portions of the contest, and led the team to a 37-3 trouncing of the lowly Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Everbank Field.
After traded early field goals, the Colts grabbed its first lead of the game with its defense taking charge. After extending a Jacksonville drive by penalty, defensive back Darius Butler intercepted a tipped pass at the 41-yard line, and went untouched down the right sideline.
It was the second season in a row against Jacksonville Butler returned a pick for a score, and he has now returned four of his eight career interceptions for touchdowns.
The following Jacksonville went three-and-out after the Colts defense stuffed Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew on a third-and-one.
From there, the Colts offense would awaken with the help of its third-string back.
Running back Donald Brown on the drive's third play received an inside hand off out of the shotgun, found a hole into the second level, split the Jaguars two deep safeties and busted off a 50-yard run to the 17-yard line. Three plays later, Richardson went over the left tackle from a yard out to extend the Colts lead to 17-3, and the team wouldn't look back.
Quarterback Andrew Luck started slow, but finished 22-for-36 passing for 260 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. For the first time in his short career, he was able to be spelled as Matt Hasselbeck replaced him with just under six minutes to go.
Colts running back Trent Richardson rushed 20 times for 60 yards to go with his touchdown, and had one catch for six yards.
Wide receiver Reggie Wayne had another 100-yard receiving game on five receptions, catching one score.
Jones-Drew was held to 23 yards rushing on 13 carries.
The team would take a 20-3 lead into the half, outgaining the Jaguars 238-69 and gaining 10 more first downs.
