Carter, 26, was the team's fourth-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Syracuse University, making three starts during his rookie season.
In his Colts career, Carter rushed 133 times for 499 yards and five touchdowns. During the 2013 preseason, he had 10 rushes for 27 yards.
Although he received significant time as a third-down back during his rookie season, he was relegated to back up duty in 2012, carrying the ball only 32 times. The team inserted then-rookie Vick Ballard as the primary running back, and used Donald Brown as his backup. The team also drafted running back Kerwynn Williams in the seventh-round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and signed Ahmad Bradshaw during the offseason.
In return, the Colts received wide receiver David Reed from the Ravens.
Reed, 26, weighs in at 6-feet, 195 pounds and was the Ravens fifth-round selection from the University of Utah in the 2010 NFL Draft. He has primarily been a special teams returner. He had a 103-yard kickoff return during his rookie year in 2010, and made his first career reception in 2012 against the Denver Broncos in week 15.
Reed has averaged 31.3 yards per kick return during the 2013 preseason.
