Bruce Arians took a a difficult situation and made the best of it, for both the Indianapolis Colts and himself. Arians guided the Colts to a 9-3 record and a wild card playoff berth after head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia. That earned Arians the Arizona Cardinals' head coaching position following the season.

Tonight, Arians earned the top honor in his profession as he was named the NFL Coach of the Year. Arians earned 36.5 of the 50 media votes cast for the award. Ironically, Chuck Pagano finished second with 5.5 votes. Seattle's Pete Carroll and Minnesota's Leslie Frazier rounded out the coaches receiving votes.

A year ago Arians was let go as the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was leaning toward retirement when Chuck Pagano called him to take the Colts' offensive coordinator's position. What a difference a year makes.

The other Colt up for a major award finished second. Quarterback Andrew Luck finished second to Washington's Robert Griffin III in NFL Rookie of the Year voting. RGIII won 29 of the 50 media votes while Luck had 11 votes. Seattle's Russell Wilson finished third in the balloting with 10 votes.
