The injury bug just keeps biting at the Indianapolis Colts. Already having learned that starting defensive lineman Fili Moala would be lost for the season, the Colts announced today that safety Tom Zbikowski's knee hasn't progressed enough for him to play in this weekend's game against the Detroit Lions.
"He will not make the trip. He could not work today and we’ll leave him here to rehab and not take him on the flight and not get swelling on the knee and see if we can get him out by Monday," interim head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Friday.
Arians said that Sergio Brown and Joe Lefeged would split time opposite Antoine Bethea at safety on Sunday. They'll face a tough test against the Lions' pass offense that is generating over 300 yards per game through the air.
One bit of good news for the Colts secondary will be the return to action of CB Vontae Davis. Arians said that he plans for Davis to start, but that he's also confident in Cassius Vaughn and Darius Butler who have been the starters for the Colts the last three weeks.
Arians reported no other injuries, meaning that TE Coby Fleener should also be able to return to action this week. Donald Brown, Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney have also been battling nagging injuries. Arians said anyone else would be a game-time decision.
The Lions are hurting themselves, particularly along their vaunted defensive line. Both Cliff Averil and Kyle Vanden Bosch are questionable as well as safety Louis Delmas, CB Chris Houston and former Colts Jacob Lacey. RB Mikel Leshoure is also questionable for Detroit.
