Indiana can cross off another thing on its 'To Do' list for the season after earning its first ever trip to Omaha and a spot in the College World Series. After being a heavy underdog, the Hoosiers prevailed with a two game sweep over the Florida State Seminoles.
The win by IU (48-14) marks the first time that the Big Ten will be represented in the CWS since 1984.
The trip to Tallahassee wasn't easy for the Hoosiers. IU won a back-and-forth match with FSU on Saturday 10-9. Sunday, the Hoosiers fought off a furious rally by FSU to win 11-6.
The Super Regional is just another in a long list of wins for the Hoosiers this season. IU won the Big Ten regular season title and the Tournament title. Coach Tracy Smith earned Big Ten Coach of the Year accolades and ace Aaron Slegers was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. IU followed that up with a sweep of their regional.
It is very likely that IU wont earn much respect heading into the College World Series. It's been 28 years since the Big Ten reached Omaha, and with that goes a negative reputation for the conference.
Indiana will open up the CWS against Louisville this weekend in a double elimination tournament. The Hoosiers played a series with the Cardinals this season and won 2-1.
