The Green Bay Packers (3-2) officially promoted tight end Jake Stoneburner and wide receiver Myles White from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, according to and confirmed by Packers General Manager Ted Thompson.
The Packers have also signed linebacker Victor Aiyewa to the practice squad. Aiyewa, an undrafted rookie, played collegiately at the University of Washington.
Stoneburner and White, undrafted rookies from Ohio State and Louisiana Tech, respectively, have both been on the Packers practice squad all season until Tuesday.
At Ohio State from 2009-2012, Stoneburner caught 53 passes for 714 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 6', 182-pound White caught 96 passes for 1,132 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons at Louisiana Tech.
Van Roten's season is over because of a foot injury, but Cobb has been giving a designation to return to the team and participate in practice in six weeks. The earliest Cobb can play in a game is in eight weeks, which would be December 15 against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Monday, Cobb has a broken fibula which won't end his season, but he could miss up to two months. All 32 NFL teams are allowed to designate up to one player on the IR for return. With the decision to use the designation on Cobb, the Packers will not have to release any players on their active roster right now.
On Monday, the Packers reportedly were interested in signing wide receiver Tavarres King off of the Denver Broncos (6-0) practice squad, but the Broncos promoted King to their active roster on Tuesday.
Cobb and fellow wide receiver James Jones both suffered knee injuries in the Packers' win over the Baltimore Ravens (3-3) this past weekend. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Cobb would be out for "multiple weeks," while Jones has a chance to play this weekend against the Cleveland Browns (3-3).
McCarthy declined to comment on the details of Cobb and Jones' injuries, but even with a healthy Jones, the Packers only have Jones, White, Jarrett Boykin and Jordy Nelson for wide receiver depth on the 53-man roster.
On Monday, the Packers signed wide receiver Reggie Dunn to the practice squad for the second time this season. Dunn was released on October 10 in favor of cornerback Jumal Rolle. With all of the Packers' health problems at wide receiver, Dunn could see playing time sooner than expected.
Stoneburner has solid size (6'3, 249) and he could be featured in more of a receiving role barring anymore injuries in the receiving core, while Dunn was an All-American kick returner at Utah last season.
The Packers now have five tight ends, as Stoneburner will likely be listed on the depth chart behind Jermichael Finley, Brandon Bostick, Andrew Quarless and Ryan Taylor.
The Packers haven't officially confirmed the extent of Cobb's injury, but placing him on the IR means he won't return to the team for quite some time. The Packers official injury report will be available on Wednesday.
