Green Bay Packers Continue to Rise in NFL Power Rankings

Before we get to the Goat's latest NFL Power Rankings, lets honor a couple of players and feature some quick hit surprises.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

The Minnesota Vikings had emotion on their side after the horrid and awful death to Adrian Peterson's two year-old son, but Cam Newton had other plans for the Panthers on Sunday.

Newton led a Panthers' offensive attack which torched the Vikings defense for 35 points, as Newton completed 20 of 26 passes for 242 yards and he threw three touchdowns.

Newton also rushed for 30 yards on nine carries and scored one touchdown on the ground as well, as the Panthers clearly looked like the better team on Sunday, thanks to Newton.

No Clay Matthews proved to be no problem for the Green Bay Packers defense, as Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk had the best game of his NFL career.

Hawk led the Packers with 10 total tackles, five tackles for loss and he registered three sacks in a win against the Baltimore Ravens.

Hawk helped the Packers defense hold the Ravens to only 17 points and 47 rushing yards on offense. With Hawk's explosive plays in the opposing backfield this past Sunday, expect the Packers to blitz him more often (especially with Nick Perry's latest injury).

1. Buffalo Bills quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, who was just promoted from the practice squad, nearly led the Bills to a comeback victory over the Cincinnati Bengals…the beauty of playing home games in the NFL.

2. Green Bay Packers lose star wide receivers James Jones and Randall Cobb to knee injuries against the Baltimore Ravens on the road and they still find a way to win the football game on offense.

3. St. Louis Rams defense and special teams forced four turnovers and returned two of those turnovers for touchdowns. The 14 points scored by the defense and special teams OUTSCORED the Houston Texans alone on Sunday (Texans only scored 13 points).

4. Detroit Lions undrafted rookie tight end Joseph Fauria celebrates the return of All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson with three touchdown receptions.

5. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has one of his most impressive finishes to a game in his entire career and he is able to do it with a lesser-talented receiving group than he has ever had.
