The Green Bay Packers have officially placed offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga (ACL), rookie wide receiver Kevin Dorsey (foot), running back DuJuan Harris (knee), and linebacker Jarvis Reed (ankle) on the Injured-Reserve list Tuesday, according to the Packers’ official team website.

General Manager Ted Thompson also placed safety Sean Richardson (neck), defensive end Jerel Worthy (knee), and offensive tackles Derek Sherrod (leg) and J.C. Tretter (ankle) were placed on the regular season Player-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) list. All four players have been limited throughout training camp, and will miss the first six games of the regular season.

The team also released kicker Zach Ramirez, two days after signing the undrafted rookie and one day after releasing kicker Giorgio Tavecchio.

McCarthy announced Harris’ transaction earlier on Tuesday after the running back re-injured his knee during Friday’s preseason loss against the Seattle Seahawks. Physically, Harris has had a tough offseason leading up to 2013.

“It’s disappointing, it has been a tough year”, Harris said Tuesday. “I’m going to keep the same hunger and attitude though. It is definitely not the end of my career. It’s not over”.

Before mini-camp, Harris had a non-cancerous tumor removed from his lungs, and the Packers placed him on the PUP list before training camp with the same knee injury. Harris returned to practice before the team’s second preseason game in St. Louis a couple of weeks ago, but he reportedly received multiple opinions on his knee after re-injuring the same knee on Friday.

“This is a tough one”, McCarthy said Tuesday after practice. “He is a young player who I thought would make an impact on our offense. (Harris) was a big part of my individual focus for the season. It is a tough blow for him, but we need to get him healthy”.

Because Harris was removed from the PUP list during training camp, the Packers can’t place him back on the PUP list. The Packers signed Harris off of the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad in late 2012, and he rushed for 157 yards and scored two touchdowns in the last four games of the 2012 regular season for the Packers.

McCarthy said he has not spoken to Harris about returning to the Packers at mid-season. NFL teams are allowed to designate one player off of their respective injured-reserve lists during the regular season.

“(McCarthy) is a great coach”, Harris said. “I love playing for him. I’m going to bust my butt for him and not let him down. This is best for the long-term, and I’m all for it”.

NFL teams were also required to trim their roster from 90 to 75 players by 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Over the weekend, the Packers released quarterback Graham Harrell among other players.

Harrell was released shortly after a poor showing against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday in Green Bay. Against the Seahawks, Harrell completed 6/13 passes for 49 yards.  In three games this preseason, Harrell threw one interception, and completed 23/42 passes for 169 yards. A struggle of a preseason, Harrell was booed during the Packers 17-0 shutout loss in the first game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Packers, who also released Tavechhio on Monday, is in the midst of a weird situation in Green Bay. Despite his release, McCarthy said Tavecchio is still a part of many possible scenarios, and the kicking competition is far from over.

“We feel we have a very good handle on where Giorgio is in terms of his capabilities”, McCarthy said Monday. “We are hoping to resolve it sooner than later, and it’s important for the two remaining kickers to take advantage of their opportunities”.

The Packers released undrafted rookie free agents Ramirez, wide receiver Alex Gillett, running back Angelo Pease, and defensive tackle Gilbert Pena. Over the weekends, the Packers also released wide receivers Omarius Hines and Justin Wilson, who were both signed by the team during training camp.

The Packers have one exhibition game left in the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium (Thursday, 7:00 p.m.). NFL teams are required to trim their active rosters to 53 players by 5 p.m. on Saturday.
