The Pro Bowl finally ended, and both viewers were treated to a game similar to many of the regular season games. By that of course I mean, no defense, no running game and a barrage of deep throws. The only real entertainment came from Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall who caught a pass that was deflected by a defender then bounced off his leg while laying on his back in the end zone. Marshall was named MVP after breaking a Pro Bowl record with four touchdowns. Other than that play, it was pretty standard, no pass rush and no coverage. The AFC ended up winning 59 – 41, odd looking score for a football game isn't it?
This game totaled 1,142 yards on 98 passing and 40 rushing attempts, not exactly an on the edge of your seat game, but hey it's an all star game. Every all star game is boring and nobody watches, did anyone know the NHL all star game was on before the Pro Bowl?
Sports in general need to do away with these games and stop saying that "it's for the fan's", because we don't care and we don't watch. We would all be much happier seeing each player in a suit posing for a picture with the commissioner and their fellow Pro Bowlers holding their plaques and or jerseys. They get their bonus check, sign some Pro Bowl memorabilia that people can buy online and they go home.
If it's really about the fans, how about the NFL give back to the fans that make the NFL so profitable. How about each team picks a fan of the year or something and send them and their family to Hawaii for a weekend vacation. After all, doesn't John Smith making 35 thousand dollars a year, working 60 hours a week, paying 100 dollars a ticket, 20 dollars for parking and 50 dollars on food and drinks to go to a game deserve a little appreciation from the NFL?
Ok, enough of the hatred of the NFL and their greed for now, on to the Packers and their game stats.
The Green Bay Packers stars that were in attendance; Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Scott Wells, B.J. Raji, Clay Matthews, and Charles Woodson played plenty of snaps all contributing a little here and there to this snore fest of a game.
Rodgers went 13/17 for 141 yards and two touchdowns, one of those completions was to himself for -15 yards, go figure. Jennings caught five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown from Drew Brees. Wells, well he was the center, so you don't get many stats for that, and he didn't have to worry about a pass rush, so he played great! Raji totaled three tackles, not bad for a defensive tackle who plays in the 3-4 defense and is forced to play in a 4-3. Matthews had one tackle and an interception, but after the pick they decided to play street ball and toss a couple laterals, and of course it was turned right back over to the AFC. Woodson on the other hand did not record a single defensive stat, weird considering the amount of passes that were thrown.
Well hopefully next year the NFL will wise up to the fact that the Pro Bowl is not worth anyones Sunday evening, and just do away with the game all together. But surely they won't, and we will see another 25 fill in players in place of the people the fans actually voted in and we'll get our yearly dose of digital Ambien.
