The official off season is much shorter now, at three weeks. It will still be a long off season for the world elite players. Don't expect to see Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, or Adam Scott out playing in any of the domestic events. It's possible that one or two elite players will pop in a couple of the international events that will part of this "off-season" phase of the tour schedule. One elite player that may pop into one or two events could be Rory Mcllroy who is looking for a huge comeback from his struggles during the past season. But it's just as likely he'll simply be working on the weaknesses in his game to gear up for a big January start.
The good news is that the upcoming events offer an opportunity for competitors that normally don't have a chance to win on tour to contend for a championship, even if it's not against the strongest fields. It also offers a chance to begin building FedEx Cup points early in the season ahead of the more traditional schedule. Finally, it offers a great opportunity for players who may not be fully exempt on tour to earn full exemptions with a victory in one of the events.
There will be a "break" in the tour schedule during the November and December holiday period. But between this weekend and Thanksgiving weekend there will be seven events. After the Frys.com Open this week and weekend, here are the other six with dates and locations:
10/17-10/20 Shriners Hospital for Children Open Las Vegas
10/24-10/27 CIMB Classic Kuala Lumpur
10/31-11/3 WGC/HSBC Shanghai
11/7-11/10 McGladrey Classic Sea Island, GA
11/14-11/17 OHL Classic Playa Del Carmen, MX
11/21-11/24 World Cup of Golf Victoria, AU
The break after the finish of the World Cup of Golf will last until the annual Hyundai Tournament of Champions which kicks of the New Year on January 3-6 on the Plantation Course at Kapalua, Hawaii on the island of Maui.
