As has been stated many times this week, there's a lot on the line as they tee it up at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the final round of the Tour Championship. What seemed like a foregone conclusion, a Henrik Stenson victory as he made the turn in yesterday's third round, has just a glimmer of uncertainty now. Stenson himself made sure of that as he faltered down the stretch yesterday, bogeying three of the final four holes.
The other question is, who can still win the overall FedEx Cup and its $10 Million bounty? Only Henrik Stenson, and perhaps Zach Johnson, fully controls his own destiny. Hold on and win here today, and he will hold the Cup. Zach Johnson needs to come from seven shots down to win both the tournament and the FedEx Cup, but he'll need a lot of cooperation from Stenson to do that.
Steve Stricker is six shots back and can win if he can go low and overtake Stenson. That would likely win him the FedEx Cup as well as the only other help he'd need is for Tiger Woods to finish lower than second at East Lake, and that is nearly assured unless Tiger has a 61 or lower in his bag.
Dustin Johnson, currently in second at East Lake, four shots back, needs quite a bit of help besides just running down Stenson. There are too many things that would need to happen for it to be realistic, but stranger things have happened.
Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth, and Billy Horschel still have mathematical chances, but like Zach Johnson, they're all seven shots back, and would need too many other things go their way besides just going really low and winning.
