Second round play at the 2012 Ricoh Women's British Open has been suspended for the day, due to adverse weather conditions. Play will resume on Saturday at 6:50 am local time at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Susan Simpson, LGU Tournament Director issued this statement at 11:00 am:
The Rules Committee has declared the scores returned this morning null and void in accordance with Rule 33-2d. The competitors began their round in extremely adverse weather conditions and conditions subsequently worsened despite our belief that they would remain stable.
It would have been unfair to those competitors not to declare play null and void and cancel all scores for the round in question.
A further announcement will be made at 2pm and the earliest that play will start is 3pm today.
Subsequent to the statement's release, the decision was made to suspend play until Saturday.
Koreans Haeji Kang and So Yeon Ryu shared the first round lead at two-under par, 70, one shot clear of a group of nine golfers that included three-time champion Karrie Webb, 2008 champion Jiyai Shin and former World number one Ai Miyazato.
Another 17 players were at even-par, 72, including two-time defending champion Yani Tseng, Americans Cristie Kerr and Morgan Pressel and 15-year old wunderkind Lydia Ko.
