DETROIT – The only thing worse than a 400-foot single (something Victor Martinez has come to specialize in during recent years at Comerica Park) is a 400-foot out.
Victor Martinez avoided that fate Thursday afternoon by sending a Dylan Bundy pitch 420 feet into the seats in the fifth inning in his final game before leaving for a three-game paternity leave.
It wasn’t the only send-off Martinez had for Comerica Park, which had added three more 400-foot fly-outs to its list of victims on Thursday.
When a reporter mentioned that he seemed to be elevating the ball more, Martinez all but rolled his eyes.
